John Dean of Dean Safe

John Dean is the owner of Dean Safe. He started his business in 1987 in the San Fernando Valley and grew it from a small 600 square-foot safe store to having three huge showrooms and a warehouse totaling over 25,000 square feet. Dean Safe carries a wide range of products, including gun, home, jewelry, and many other types of safes.

We recently sat down with John to discuss his experience as an AMSEC dealer/distributor for the past 30 years:

What is it about AMSEC that compels you to do business with them?

There are two main reasons why we have carried American Security safes for so many decades:

They have an extremely broad selection of safe products. More so than anyone else. This allows us to better serve our customers and provide them with the exact safe that suits their needs.

Dependable supply chain—Distributors have more American Security safes in stock than any other brand. This provides dealers with a much better chance to quickly match the right product to the customer’s needs.

Does AMSEC offer you any products that are unique for you in any way?

We sell all types of safes, but the BF gun safes are our most popular models. Designed primarily for the homeowner market, they provide a tremendous amount of security and fire protection for gun collectors, homeowners, and even a small office. The construction and durability of the BF gun safe is outstanding, and they look great.

How does AMSEC best support your business?

The customer service is top-notch. If AMSEC says that they’re going to ship a safe in two weeks, they will ship in two weeks. This solid reliability provides us with an opportunity to plan our purchasing.

The dependable lead times allow us to perform better inventory management—considering how much floor space a safe takes up, this prevents us from having a massive warehouse.

American Security will also manufacture customized units if a customer requests a specific feature. Best of all, we have a dedicated account manager who is easy to get a hold of. We’re on a first-name basis with our rep, and they know our account like the back of their hand.

What is the most significant advantage for you in doing business with American Security?

They’re someone that we can count on. We’ve been with them for well over 30 years, and they have proven themselves time and time again with their superior build quality and outstanding customer service.

We’ve worked with some safe companies in the past who literally forgot who we were the moment one of our customers had an issue. We feel it’s important to take care of our customers even if the manufacture won’t, and that can get very expensive.

On the other hand, American Security will go the extra mile when it comes time to supporting their products. Their customer service is absolutely amazing—this is why we strongly recommend their products to all of our customers.

American Security was also one of the first safe manufactures in the U.S. to implement a minimum advertised price  (MAP)—and get it working right. This helps protect dealers and distributors from predatory pricing, especially now that anyone can create an online account and start selling products.
